Get IPTV running on your Apple TV
Apple TV only installs apps from its own App Store, so the job is finding a player there that supports Xtream Codes. You install it, enter its MAC address and Device Key on iboplayer.com and add your IPTVnu login. It takes about ten minutes; keep your phone close for the activation.
Have this ready
Apart from your subscription, all of this is free. Only install the app from the tvOS App Store.
- An Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K that is online
- The Siri Remote
- A free IPTV app from the tvOS App Store with Xtream Codes support, IBO Player for example
- Our WhatsApp message with your server URL, username and password
- Your phone or a computer, for the activation on iboplayer.com
Five steps on the Apple TV
Step 2 matters: without the MAC address and Device Key, the activation page has nothing to link.
Install the app from the tvOS App Store
Open the App Store on the Apple TV itself, search for 'IBO Player' and install it; it is free. Before you install, read the app description and make sure it mentions Xtream Codes.
Note the MAC address and Device Key
The first time you open the app, it puts a MAC address (some apps say Device ID) and a Device Key on screen. Copy both exactly. The next step depends on them.
Activate on iboplayer.com/device/login
On your phone or computer, open iboplayer.com/device/login. Enter the MAC address and the Device Key, then log in to your IBO Player account or create a new one.
Add your IPTVnu login as an Xtream Codes playlist
In the dashboard, choose '+Add XC Playlist'. Fill in the server URL, username and password from our WhatsApp message. Pay attention to the server URL: it begins with http://, not https://.
Fully restart the app on the Apple TV
Close the app properly: double-click the home button on the Siri Remote and swipe the app up and out of the app switcher. Then open it again and your channels load.
Would you rather use AirPlay?
The Apple TV can receive AirPlay, so an app on the Apple TV is not your only option.
You can also watch through an IPTV app on your iPhone or iPad and send the picture to the Apple TV with AirPlay. That does work. For a long evening, though, an app running on the Apple TV itself tends to give a steadier picture than streaming from a second device.
Want to try it anyway? The iPhone and iPad guide explains the AirPlay route.
Apple TV problems and fixes
Four things we see more on Apple TV than anywhere else.
The App Store doesn't show a suitable IPTV app
Apple decides per country, and sometimes per account, which apps you see. If our suggested app isn't there, choose another IPTV app whose description clearly says it supports Xtream Codes. An app that only reads M3U leaves out films, series and the TV guide.
Linked successfully, but no channels
Check that your login went into the 'Xtream Codes' option and not into an 'M3U' field; they look alike but are not interchangeable. Next, compare the server URL with our message, including the http:// at the front. An https:// in its place stops the app from connecting.
After an update the MAC address or Device Key is different
Some apps create a new Device Key after a big tvOS or app update. Open the app, take down the codes it shows now, and activate again at iboplayer.com/device/login.
Only the Apple TV stutters; other devices are fine
If your Apple TV 4K has an ethernet port, plug in a cable; it is more dependable than Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi only, move the Apple TV and the router closer together and go through our guide on fixing IPTV buffering.
