IPTV on Chromecast with Google TV

This page is about one device: the Chromecast with Google TV, which has a remote and its own home screen. You install IBO Player from the Play Store, activate it on iboplayer.com with its MAC address and Device Key, and add your IPTVnu login. Around ten minutes is enough.

Have this ready

Everything here is free; you only pay for the subscription.

  • A Chromecast with Google TV, the model that comes with a remote, connected to the internet
  • That remote
  • Our WhatsApp message with your server URL, username and password
  • Your phone or a computer, for the activation on iboplayer.com

Five steps on the Chromecast

Start with step 1. The basic Chromecast without a remote has no Play Store, and the rest won't work on it.

  1. Make sure it is the Google TV model

Only the Chromecast that has a remote and its own home screen, called 'Chromecast with Google TV', has a Play Store and can run apps. A Chromecast without a remote can only receive what you cast from a phone; the section on that is further down.

  2. Install IBO Player from the Google Play Store

On the Chromecast with Google TV, open the Play Store, search for 'IBO Player' and install it.

  3. Note the MAC address and Device Key

When the app opens for the first time, it shows a MAC address and a Device Key. Copy both exactly as they appear.

  4. Activate on iboplayer.com/device/login

Open iboplayer.com/device/login on your phone or computer, type in both codes and log in to your IBO Player account, or make one.

  5. Add your IPTVnu login and reopen the app

In the dashboard, pick '+Add XC Playlist' and enter the server URL, username and password from our WhatsApp message. The server URL begins with http://, not https://. Then close the app on the Chromecast completely and start it again.

Enter your login in the app's Xtream Codes option, often shown as '+Add XC Playlist', not in an M3U field. That way the TV guide comes along with the live channels.

Your Chromecast has no remote?

Then it has no home screen of its own and cannot run apps.

The basic Chromecast only shows what another device sends it. You would run an IPTV app on your phone or tablet and tap the cast button to put the picture on the TV. Not every IPTV app can cast to a Chromecast, so check that in the app you plan to use.

A device that runs the app itself gives a steadier picture than casting. If that sounds better, read the Android TV and IPTV box guide, which applies to Chromecast with Google TV as well.

Wi-Fi is all it has

Unlike most Android TV boxes, the Chromecast has no network port.

A live channel needs every second of picture to arrive on time. Plan on about 10 Mbit/s for HD and about 25 Mbit/s for 4K, and put the Chromecast where your Wi-Fi signal is normally strong. If it still stutters, our guide on fixing IPTV buffering walks you through the checks.

Chromecast problems and fixes

Four issues that come up on this device more than on others.

The Play Store on my Chromecast doesn't have IBO Player

Check the model first. A Chromecast without a remote has no Play Store and cannot install anything. If that is the one you have, skip to the casting section on this page.

Activation went fine, but the channel list is empty

Make sure your login is under 'Xtream Codes', not under 'M3U'. Then compare the server URL with our message, http:// included. If you typed https:// by mistake, the app cannot connect.

The picture stutters, mostly in the evening

Chromecast with Google TV has no network port, so without a separate ethernet adapter it always uses Wi-Fi. Move it closer to the router, and if it keeps stuttering, go through our guide on fixing IPTV buffering.

The app crashes or shuts itself down

In the Chromecast settings, open the list of installed apps, choose IBO Player and clear its cache. If it still crashes, uninstall it and install it again from the Play Store.
